Xrev Transmit – Build 1.2.20

We have recently been notified of an issue where Xrev commands would fail to run at all.  After some investigation we discovered it was cause by the Project Information parameter “Author” not existing in a project.  This parameter should always exists, even the API documentation has a class specifically assigned to this parameter.

Regardless, this seems to occur if you start a new project or template without using a template (IE: you just use the metric/imperial prompt) option to get an absolute bare bones template.

We are currently working on the 2013 release for this version to tie people over until Xrev Transmit 2.0.  We apologise for the delays, but when the new version is released people will hopefully think it was worth the wait.

Xrev Transmit – 2013 release update

It seems that our users are keen to update to Revit 2013, but won’t do so until Xrev Transmit supports it for fear of having to go back to the “old way” of issuing drawings.

Once you’ve used it, you realise how tedious issuing really is!!

Please be advised that we are working on getting this to our users as soon as possible!  As some of you may be aware we’ve been feverishly working on an all new version with many improvements.  The big new feature being direct integration with Aconex.  Working with external API’s is always a bit unpredictable in terms of estimating time frames, but we are getting very close.

Thank you for all renewing your subscription, when we release the new version you will immediately be receiving an email with your new serial number supporting the new version.

We are really hoping to release this by next Friday 11th May – but no promises!

Keep the kind words coming and spread the word of this great tool so we can keep developing similar indispensable tools!

NOTE: This will also coincide with the release of Xrev Freebies.

Xrev Transmit – Cox Architecture deploy to all their offices

Cox Architecture is one of Australia’s largest national architectural companies – as distinct from practices which comprise a series of franchises.

They have Australian offices located in:

  • Sydney
  • Brisbane
  • Melbourne
  • Perth
  • Canberra

And international offices located in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

As significant Autodesk Revit users, Cox Architecture reviewed Xrev Transmit in December 2011.  Immediately they saw the potential time saving and quality improving possibilities of Xrev Transmit.  In January 2012, Cox Architecture purchased a significant number of licenses to deploy to the Revit seats in all of their offices.

Other large organisations are now following this trend and looking to deploy Xrev Transmit company wide.  Download the free trial today and see how it can benefit your company!

Xrev – Trial Survey Competition Results

We’ve recently conducted a few surveys gathered from our trial and purchased users.  These survey’s were designed to assist us improve our products, but also to hopefully get some feedback as to how our users are finding our first product – Xrev Transmit.

What people are saying about Xrev Transmit:

“We have users who want to marry you they are so happy with the time savings”

“Excellent product – I couldn’t Revit without it”

“The time savings are great.  Everyone loves using it.”

“We absolutely love the product.  It has exceeded our expectations and is a pleasure to use”

“Xrev Transmit makes tasks that have always been tedious, fast and dare I say it enjoyable”

Thank you everyone for this fantastic feedback.  Congratulations to the winner of the random draw:

You will be receiving a free copy of Xrev Transmit with 12 months subscription!!

So what did we find out about Xrev Transmit from our surveys?

Sometimes no news is not good news.  Most people we had spoken to in person or contacted us had given us excellent feedback.  But that doesn’t always give us the full story.  We need to understand how all our users and potential users find Xrev Transmit to understand how we can make it better and where we need to improve.  Below is a summary of the responses of our surveys.

Demographics:

Interestingly, companies trialling or using Xrev Transmit vary in size considerably.  Small and very large companies represent more than 50% of our users!  Looks like Xrev Transmit has the potential to benefit a company of any size.

Pre Xrev Transmit:

It was important for us to identify how long our users are spending (wasting?) printing/exporting and sending Revit sheets.  On average our users spend 1-2 hours issuing Revit sheet without using Xrev Transmit.

Frequency:

But, how often do they have to spend those 1-2 hours?  Responses were varied.  But on average around 3-4 times per week.  That equates to 3-8 hours per week spent printing/export Revit sheets, naming files and completing transmittals.  That’s up to 20% of their billable time per week…

Xrev Transmit – Time Saving:

This was great to see.  On average we save our users 75% of these 8 hours!  That’s a 6 hour time saving, nearly an extra day a week, no need to work Saturday (or Friday?)… 🙂

Xrev Transmit – Setup time:

We understand that our users need to take some time to optimise Xrev Transmit settings to their requirements.  You can see that 36% of users simply installed to see what Xrev Transmit does.  But for those that have taken the time, people are generally up and running with what they need within 1-2 hours.  If people find themselves needing to spend more time than this, contact our support as we are happy to help!

Recommendations:

This was fantastic.  100% of those that have already purchased Xrev Transmit have already recommended it to others or plan to.

This was handy information to gather, but ultimately what we were most interested in was how our users rate the particular areas of our software and service:

Just about everything averaged out in the Very Good/Easy to Excellent range.  Looks like we have a little bit of work to do on our Deployment for multiple users, Update process and Documentation/Help to get them as high as the other areas.  Definitely something we are going to take away and try and improve upon.

A big thank you to all that took the time to assist us with these two survey’s and congratulations again to our winner!

Xrev Transmit – Build 1.2.13 & Breaking News

Earlier this week I was helping one of our customers customise their Xrev Transmit Document Transmittal template to match their office standards.  In doing so it required that I include some of the “content controls” or “merge fields” of the template in the header of the document.

After some testing I realised that the fields located in the header or footer were not correctly being substituted with the parameter information from Revit.  After a quick word to our developer, he discovered the cause of the issue and resolved it.  The 1.2.13 build will now allow you to locate the fields within a header or footer of the word template.

For those that have already purchased Xrev Transmit.  BREAKING NEWS! We are rewarding all our early adopters!  We have decided that Xrev Transmit PRO will no longer be a separate product.  Instead we will integrate these features directly into Xrev Transmit.  Naturally as the functionality increases in the future, prices will need to adjust accordingly.  But as you’ve already purchased you don’t need to pay any more, just keep your subscription current!

Features to be integrated include:

  • Historical Issue Information storage,
  • Matrix/Full History Transmittals/Registers
  • Support for more advanced SQL database types
  • Integration with online document management systems
  • Integration with internal document management systems
  • Track/Search for what sheets have been received by whom and who hasn’t received the latest information
  • Excel like selection/editing in tables

Xrev Transmit – Build 1.2.12

Unfortunately solving the last bug created an extra couple that needed to be resolved, if you experience the following, please update to build 1.2.12 or later:

  • When creating multiple DWF/DWFx formats in a profile, adjusting radio buttons on one type causes the other DWF/DWFx option to be de-selected.
  • Problems saving non-DXF/DWG formats to the profile.

Apologies to those that recently updated…!

Xrev Transmit – Build 1.2.11

Monday 17/10/2011 we had an issue reported where a user was finding that their walls/columns weren’t showing up in their DWG export when using Xrev Transmit on Autodesk Revit 2011.  It took some testing but we were able to pinpoint the issue which appears to have been a bug in Revit 2011 that was resolved in Revit 2012.

It occurred when a plan view was in wireframe, switching to hidden line the export worked fine in Xrev Transmit.  There is an option in the API for “Forced Hidden Line Removal” which is supposed to be only applicable in 3D Views.  As such, Xrev Transmit just leaves this setting at its default which is “false”.  We discovered if we switched this option to “True” all the columns/walls would correctly show up in the output DWG file.

Once we discovered the issue, we could simply add a setting in Xrev Transmit so the user can change this option as needed.  If you experience this issue please update to build 1.2.11 or later.  We have set the default option for this to be “True” and it can be found in your DWG export options.

PS.  We find it really strange that setting an option that sounds like its job is to “remove lines” fixes an issue where lines were disappearing??? The quirks of the Revit API…

Xrev Transmit – Build 1.2.10

We’ve recently addressed a few minor issues:

  • When adding Xrev Transmit – Issue command to the quick access toolbar there was no logo,
  • “Issue Name” was not substituting when doing an “Untracked Issue”
  • Added the “Issue Reason” to the summary tab of an “Untracked issue”
  • A sheet may not show when doing an appended transmittal if you started a new project, setup the sheets, then saved as for another building and renumbered the same sheets to be non-duplicates.  This was because internally we were tracking the sheets by their unique ID.  Using Save as does not reset the ID’s so this meant that it was possible to have two sheets in different files with different sheet numbers but with the same “Unique ID”.  As such, certain sheets may not show up in your transmittal because Xrev Transmit thought it was already entered.

We believe we have addressed all outstanding bugs (with the exception of certain dodgy printer drivers/printer permissions that can cause the Revit API to play up).  If you do experience any issues please don’t hesitate to report them to us as we consider all bug fixes as priority 1.

Xrev Transmit – Build 1.2.7

This week we had two minor issues reported and we’ve quickly resolved.

  • <ProjName> parameter was not correctly intepreting the Project Name from the project when using it in Naming Conventions/Output Paths.
  • Xrev could fail on load if you had an extremely long text entry on one of your Revit parameters.

Please let us know if you find any others.  Apologies to those that just updated to the last build!
