This update resolves a minor issue where the “Issue Name” parameter is not available when doing an “Untracked Issue”.

If you are aware of any other issues please let us know and we’ll attempt to find a resolution as soon as possible.

Thanks and back to work on Xrev Sheets!

Xrev Transmit – New Build (maintenance release)

Today we identified an issue in Xrev Transmit when a user has multiple shared parameters of the same name applied to the sheet category within their project.  This caused an error within Xrev Transmit and it would fail to start.

As we are dedicated to our support, we have now fixed the issued and provided a new build for download from our site.  As previously mentioned, the trial version is the same file as the full version, so simply download using this link.

If you have experienced issues with Xrev Transmit, please report them so we can fix them.  We consider all bug reports for Xrev Transmit priority 1 on our agenda and will address them as quickly as possible!!

Update and keep things running smoothly!

To date there is only 1 bug/error/issue we have been unable to fix.  This unfortunately is a limitation of the Revit API.  Some older printer drivers seem to cause Xrev Transmit to fail to load printer information when accessed, this is because the Revit API for accessing printer information errors when obtaining information about the printer.  There is a weird limitation that once this has an error, it stays in an error state permanently until you restart Revit.  We’d love to provide a better solution but can’t until this bug is fixed by Autodesk.

You’ll know you’ve got this issue if you see the below error message on the Issuing Window:

Error Unable to select printer “xxx”

You can try systematically deleting printers one at time until it works, this trial and error process will identify which printer is causing the issue allowing you to remove that printer or see if there is an updated driver available for it.

Unable to select printer error

Xrev Transmit – Revit 2012 Support Released

We have just uploaded the Revit 2012 version of Xrev Transmit.

We’ve actually managed to be quite clever about it.  Xrev Transmit can share the same database for Revit 2011 and 2012.  That means if you need to change any settings, they are changed instantly in both versions by only changing it one.

Due to some code fixes in the Revit 2012 API, the 2012 version also now supports setting of the Export Layers File through the Formats tab.  Previously in 2011 this feature in the API was broken.  Similarly in the 2011 API the “xref views on sheet” setting was broken, but Autodesk have now fixed this so this option now correctly behaves in Xrev Transmit 2012.

Any feedback is welcomed.

Xrev Transmit – Return on Investment ROI

Making any decision to spend money on additional software/services must always factor in how long it will take to get a return on your investment.

Based upon feedback from our users and internal studies we’ve pieced the below study together.

Typically when issuing drawings there is a requirement for a PDF and occasionally a DWG file for each sheet.  The standard process for issuing out of Revit would include exporting out each sheet one at a time (DWG) and naming them as you go long to your office protocols to include the revision number and any other parameters.  Potentially a user could also export out every sheet in a single process using Revit’s inbuilt automatic naming (short or long) and then have to come back later and amend the naming to suit your office protocol.

Then for a PDF issue the user must print all sheets to a PDF printer (Adobe PDF, CutePDF, etc) whether they are prompted to enter a file name for every sheet.  So the user must sit and feedback the responses as the computer asks at each one.

Finally, all this information needs to be manually transferred to a document transmittal and sent using the appropriate medium.

For arguments sake lets say the average issue takes 6 people hours.  Using a conservative charge out rate of $120/hour that equates to $720.

So each issue of drawings currently costs $720 to deliver.

So in comparison, lets look at Xrev Transmit:

First there are some overheads, there is the initial purchase of $229 per seat (or less depending on how many copies are purchased).

Then there is installation and setup.  Installation takes approximately 5 minutes per machine depending on whether the support components are required.  Setup can take around 4 hours to modify the settings to suit your standards and customise the transmittal to meet your needs.

Once this is all setup an issue typically only requires 1-2 minutes of actual user input.  The rest of the time the computer and revit are busy doing their job, and the user is free to do other, more productive things…

So lets put some costs against that.  Let’s say 5 copies of Xrev Transmit are bought at $179/seat.  The initial overhead is $1395 including setup.  Note, I haven’t costed in any training because Xrev Transmit uses a wizard style interface and doesn’t really require training to understand.

From then on an issue is costing around $5-10 to produce as opposed to $720.  So to recoup the initial cost of $1395 it only takes 2 issues of a project using Xrev Transmit!

In Summary:

Conventional Issue Cost = $720

Xrev Transmit Issue Cost = $10

Xrev Transmit Purchase & Setup = $1395 (in this example)

Time to achieve return on investment = 2 project issues or 1 week, if you do 2 issues per week!!

Xrev Transmit – Revit 2012

Hi everyone,

We’ve had some enquiry as to what happens when Revit 2012 is released in the next week or so.

Well to put your mind at ease, any purchases made now will automatically get access to Xrev Transmit 2012.  Any purchases made after Xrev Transmit 2012 is out will likewise get automatic free access to all previous releases.  So you will be able to run Xrev Transmit 2012 and 2011 simultaneously on a single license (however, they must be on the same machine).

Cheers!

Xrev Transmit – Known Issues

Hey everyone,

There is a known issue that seems to effect systems with old printer drivers.  That is, Revit is unable to parse the information to Xrev correctly.  This can result in Revit hanging and Xrev failing to load.  Users experiencing this issue have been able to successfully load Xrev Transmit by deleting unused printers or updating their printer drivers.

Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any difficulties at all.

Videos will be posted on the user guides section of the website in the next couple of days!
